The music industry is a machine designed to turn rebellion into product. They will take your anger, package it in plastic, and sell it back to you at $29.99. The only defense against this, the only way to keep the music pure, is the DIY (Do It Yourself) ethic.

Hardcore punk taught us that we don’t need them. We don’t need the booking agents, the major labels, or the Ticketmaster monopolies. All we need is a van that barely runs, a basement, a PA system, and a community that gives a damn.

Bands like Fugazi didn’t just play music; they drew a line in the sand. Five-dollar shows. No merchandise. All ages. They proved that you could operate outside the capitalist machinery and not only survive but thrive. This isn't just about business; it's about dignity.

When you attend a hardcore show in a VFW hall or a living room, you are participating in something sacred. There is no barrier between the band and the crowd. The sweat is shared. The microphone is grabbed by twenty different people during the chorus. It is a collective release.

This music asks a hard question: What are you willing to sacrifice for your art? Are you doing this to get famous, or are you doing this because you have to? The "human truth" here is that integrity has a cost. You will be tired. You will be broke. You will sleep on floors.

But in exchange, you get ownership. You own your art, you own your mistakes, and you own your successes. Hardcore is the reminder that culture is not something you buy; it is something you make. It is the refusal to be a passive consumer. So start a zine. Book a show. Start a band. Don't wait for permission. Permission is never coming.
